Move In - Move Out

waste in villanova dumpster

On Campus

Villanova University Recycling is actively involved in recycling or reusing any waste that is generated during student move in and move out. The move in program focuses on recycling all of the cardboard boxes generated by designating areas outside of every resident hall for students to place all of their empty boxes. The move out program focuses on collecting, sorting, and donating to local charities all usable items left behind by the students. Many different departments are involved in volunteering for the move out program. Please contact the Recycling Office if you are interested in volunteering for the move out program.

Off Campus

Refer to your local municpality for information on how to properly dispose of and recycle as you move in or out. Information about recycling for Radnor Township and Lower Merion Township can be found here, or you can search your local municipality's name with recycling and waste for more information.

End of Semester Donation Drive

Student move-out is the largest waste generation event of the entire year at VU.  Last year, nearly 170 tons of waste was left behind by students during move-out.  This is enough material to cover the entire football field with a pile of waste one foot deep.  Please help us improve Sustainability on-campus and beyond by considering donating your unwanted items instead of throwing them away.  Also, please note that it is illegal to dispose of electronics (e waste) in the trash in Pennsylvania.  Please utilize any of our campus e-waste drop off points to properly recycle these items, or make arrangements to recycle them by emailing recycling@villanova.edu

Donation bins have been placed out in all Residential buildings on campus, and we are collecting the following materials:

·         Non-perishable foods (unopened and unexpired)

·         Clothing, bedding (no pillows or mattress pads), and linens

·         Housewares/household items

·         Toiletries and cleaning supplies (unopened)

·         Books

·         School/office supplies

·         Décor

·         Small appliances and furniture

The items collected, sorted, and donated go to support local and international charities, helping people and animals in need.

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED:

·         Pillows (pillowcases are ok)

·         Rugs/carpets

·         Mattress pads

·         Perishable food

·         Soiled or damaged clothing

·         Used underwear/socks

·         Opened or expired food

·         Opened cleaning chemicals or toiletries

·         Trash

Please do not place these items in our donation areas.

This program is almost entirely supported by volunteers, and unacceptable waste items placed in donation bins create significant problems.

Please dispose of these items in the trash if you cannot take them with you and reuse them, but please consider reuse over disposal.
